Sheri Prasatik Zoch was trained as a scientist and holds 2 degrees in Botany from the University of Texas and a Ph.D. in Pharmacy from Purdue. At the age of 40, she started taking art classes and found the right side of her brain. While she dabbles in oils and other media, her main art form is fused glass.
"I love how glass flows when it gets hot. After I create something, I run down to the studio the next day to open the kiln. It's always a surprise. Almost always, seeing the beautiful colors and mixing of the vitreous glass takes my breath away."
Sheri Zoch has created fused glass art since 1995. Her chemistry background adds an understanding to the way glass behaves in the kiln, giving her an unparalleled perspective on glass reactions and firing schedules. Her husband, Walter Zoch, is a chemist and glassblower with 30 years experience making scientific and decorative glass. Together, they work out complex kiln firing schedules.
Sheri Zoch developed the unique presentations of glass animals incorporating different techniques and multiple kiln firings, including flameworking, painting with glass and even decal transfers. Zoch often incorporates other media into the "painting", such as wood, hide and tin.
Zoch also paints in various media, including watercolor, pastel and oils.
She opened the Glass Menagerie to showcase her fused glass animals and other work.
Dr. Zoch also started the Llano Cultural District and acts as Executive Director of the nonprofit Llano Cultural and Art Alliance, which strives to make Llano a cultural destination.
